Writers and Bloggers About Spain Conference 2015by : Diana Berryman
It comes around so quickly but it’s that time of year again. My favourite group of people, the writers and bloggers about Spain, from the Facebook page and group of the same name, will be meeting up for the annual conference, but this year it’s in my (almost) home town of Antequera in Andalucía, southern Spain and I have co-organised it!!
My co-host is the lovely Alicia Shelley of Andalucía Inland, and we’ve arranged for the conference to be held in the Parador de Antequera where most of us will be staying too. Alicia’s other half is the presenter on Antequera TV so has lots of contacts in town and between them they have sorted out some fabulous restaurants and outings including tapas at the Reina Restaurante and Arte de Cozina in the centre of Antequera. There will be other outings for the group too, plus a talk and tasting session from De-Coop olive oil company, it can’t all be work after all.
We meet up on Friday the 6th of November for a social evening and for those who haven’t been before to get to know everyone. Then it’s down to business on Saturday morning with an introductory talk from Alicia and a get to know you session so everyone is up to speed with what everyone else does.
After some serious coffee intake and the ‘get to know you’ session, we have a full morning of talks from some fabulously knowledgeable people who live and work in (and write about) Spain. These talks include Anna Kemp from Un Teatro Entre Todos, Paul Read from Speaking of Spain, Ben Cooper from Webhands Marketing, Josh Taylor from Spain for Pleasure, Jennifer Riggins THE eBranding Ninja and my fellow group admin Maya Middlemiss from Costa Connected.
A hopefully leisurely lunch, provided by the Parador, will be followed by an afternoon of interactive group activities and feedback sessions. After a coffee break we can then sit back and enjoy a talk from De-Coop, the largest olive oil manufacturers in Spain, followed by a tasting session. Afterwards for those who want to go, Alicia has arranged a trip to the Antequera museum which will be followed by an evening of drinks and tapas in town.
Sunday morning is always a struggle to get up for but there is too much to look forward to, to laze in bed nursing a hangover. We will wake everyone up with a speed networking session followed by a group discussion to get those fuzzy brains working. After a mid-morning break we will have some more talks from the likes of Jacqui Malpass from JacquiMalpass.com, Joanna Styles from Guide to Malaga and last but by no means least, our founding father (but of course not anywhere near old enough to be anyone’s actual father!!), Graham Hunt from Valencia Property.
With just over a week to go the excitement is building, the nerves too because if it all goes wrong there is only Alicia and I to blame! It will be a fabulous event and I can’t wait to catch up with old friends and meet some new ones. Many, many thanks to all the restaurants, companies and of course the Parador hotel for accommodating us, we will have the best time ever.
Look out for #WABAS15 on Twitter to follow what’s going on at the conference, there will be live tweeting, observations, gossip and much more. Don’t forget to follow me @soc1albutterfly too.
